Question For the Obamanation: What Will Obama Actually Do For Black America?

Hubby and I were sitting here watching Secret Millionaire (great show, BTW), and we began to talk about current events and the Blagojevich scandal. That's when the involvement of Jesse Jackson, Jr. came up...OH brother (pardon the pun). This moved the conversation to the issue of Obama and his relations with Black America...

And how he doesn't really have any.

Now before you call be a big fat liar, understand that I'm not talking about photo ops and shaking hands and garnering free labor from enthusiastic volunteers. What I'm really asking is what Obama's presidency will do for Black America directly? Besides hope and change, change and hope, what is he really going to do for YOU, as a Black American? I'm not asking what he will possibly do for people within your particular socioeconomic bracket, or what he will do for public schools or something like that. I'm asking, what has Obama done specifically for Black Americans in the past, and what will he specifically do for Black people in the future?

I submit to you that the real answer is nothing. There weren't any Black people on his campaign payroll, yet millions volunteered their time and effort free. I suspect that his tenure as President will look a lot like that; Black people fighting for someone who isn't really doing much for them, though he used the race card to get their support.

If you've got facts to back you up, please, prove me wrong. If you're full of hot air, you might want to save it.

Any takers?

  1. Yes. Black America is raising generations of Bitches and Hoes. Its sad to say, but its true. Nowadays, music videos says it all. Half naked females....tons of make-up and short tight clothings, dancing as if they were in strip club. We all know kids watch videos, and even if they dont see the video, they hear negativity and sexuality in the lyrics. The way young african american girls present themselves today is what they get from tv or from who they look up to, and I hate to say it, but most look up to role model that portray a negative image. We are so much stronger and intellegent as African American women....or as women period! We have to do better. Mothers have to be that example and not give up because the going get tough. We all have to keep pushing for the change we want to see. We have to be the change we want to see.

  3. Obama...Obama...Obama!!!!!!! Yes, Im a supporter of Barack Obama. He will be that support we need to get back on our feet as an african american community. We want the change....we want to see to change....we want to be the change. I believe that Obama will stand true to his word of making things better for americans and america, making the dream of going to college more afforable and comfortable. Jobs will be available where we wouldnt have to "wait by the phone and pray that maybe next month they will fired someone and call me". (Just speaking in general)And in my opinon, it is a blessing to finally see a powerful man of color run a country and refuse to give up restructing what was once a beautiful country.

  4. Eye, thanks for the comments, although the first one was somehow duplicated and posted on the wrong article :-P

    (Hey, it happens)

But concerning your support for Obama, you really just repeated a list of campaign promises. How is he going to do those things? I don't think you know because in all honesty, Obama doesn't even know how he's going to do it! He's already admitted to not knowing how he is going to pay for the universal health care he promised (Watch the video), and the truth is that most of what he promised is fluff at best.

And if we have to be the change we're looking for, what do we need Obama for? You really don't think this guy is full of it?

  5. OMG IT HAS BARELY BEEN A MONTH SINCE THIS MAN WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT. LETS GIVE BUSH TIME TO GET HIS STUFF AND GET OUT, " BECAUSE ITS NOT LIKE HE DID MUCH FOR "BLACK AMERICA" ANYWAY, BEFORE WE START JUDGING OBAMA ON WHAT HE IS NOT GOIN TO DO, ESPECIALLY FOR BLACK AMERICA.
I AM AN OBAMA SUPPORTER AND I THINK THIS MAN IS GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS FOR THIS COUNTRY, IF WE ALL JUST SET COLOR ASIDE AND LET HIM LEAD. WE THE PEOLPE ARE SO FOCUSED ON THIS MAN'S COLOR THAT WE FORGET HE QUALIFIED TO RUN AS PRESIDENT JUST LIKE MCCAIN.
WHOS TO SAY MCCAIN WOULD DO A BETTER JOB THAN OBAMA. CAMPAIGNS ARE FULL TRUTHS AND ALOT OF FALSE PROMISES AND ITS SAD TO SAY BUT THATS WHAT PEOPLE WANNA HEAR..
OBAMA IS GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS. ITS SAD THAT PEOPLE STILL SEE COLOR AND THINKS OBAMA PLAYED THE RACE CARD. IF HE DID SO WHAT , I GUESS HE MISSED THE MEMO SAYING THAT THE PRESIDENT HAD TO BE A WHITE MAN. IF PEOPLE CAN GET PASSED COLOR WE WOULDNT JUST SEE HIM AS BLACK MAN BUT AS AN INTELLIGENT EDUCATED BLACK MAN WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE CHANGES IN THIS COUNTRY.

  6. I'm tired of the rhetoric filled news conferences every week. I don't remember any other pres-elect giving a news conference every week, or everytime they sneeze or move. Yes, we have to wait until he is in office, yet what he's said up until now isn't much of anything-- except Chope.
